Charter School Red Tape Timeline: LIST of ALL complaints, dismissals

12/18/2008: This case shows a child and adult caught having sex on school grounds at Orillia’s Annemasse Trail Secondary School.

12/25/2008: A librarian at the Thames Valley District School Board in Windsor, Ont., resigns after a male principal finds graphic images and notes of child pornography on her computer, and one of his photographs of the image is broadcast on local radio.

1/1/2009: Victoria Public School in Simcoe County finds that the male principal, hired in 2007 to replace a recently retired principal, had inappropriate sexual conversations with three female students. The principal was fired, and the principal, who allegedly sexually harassed another girl after she complained of his actions, was taken off the school site.

5/25/2009: The principal of the Capilano Collegiate in Burlington resigns due to anger from the Catholic school board after he is accused of sexually harassing a student and inappropriately sexting her, with photos of “his unmentionables” and undergarments. The Capilano Collegiate is now closed.

1/25/2010: A former teacher at the Capilano Collegiate in Burlington, Ont., is arrested in connection with a separate case after he was accused of sexually assaulting a male student there in 2014. The student said the teacher took inappropriate photos of him and shared them with other students. The teacher, who remained on the public employee list, was fired in January 2011.

5/31/2010: The Capilano Collegiate in Burlington, Ont., again is shut down after a teacher was charged with sexual assault on a student. The arrest was made after a student reported that the teacher had inappropriately touched him.

2/25/2011: A teacher at the Capilano Collegiate in Burlington, Ont., resigns after an investigation revealed he inappropriately touched a female student several times last school year. He was never charged.

5/6/2011: A teacher at the Capilano Collegiate in Burlington, Ont., is charged with sexual assault and sexual exploitation after a student reported the teacher had inappropriately touched her in the past. The teacher was convicted and sentenced to at least two years in prison.

2/25/2012: A public library employee at Durham Regional District School Board in Oshawa, Ont., is charged with sex assault and sexual exploitation after a 12-year-old girl told police she had been inappropriately touched by the employee multiple times. She said the school employee grabbed her rear end and touched her vagina.

11/13/2012: The Capilano Collegiate in Burlington, Ont., closes due to parent complaints about inappropriate comments from a teacher in the drama department, including a suggestion that boys in the program couldn’t sit on other girls’ laps. The teacher also asked for class lists from male students. The teacher was reportedly a parent who, through a friend, recruited the program. He was fired.
